Black Joe Lewis and the Honeybears rock without a label
by Mary Lucia
March 06, 2017
Black Joe Lewis appreciates being his own boss, added responsibility included. "If something goes wrong, I don't have anybody else to blame but me," he says. "You just more control your own destiny … I like doing it my way."
Whereas Lewis had been on traditional record labels before, he chose to be more autonomous on his latest release, Backlash, which was released and distributed through INgrooves Music Group on Feb. 10 of this year.
Backlash is Lewis's fifth full-length album, and his fourth with backing band the Honeybears. Black Joe Lewis and the Honeybears are on tour in support of the album, with a show in the First Avenue Mainroom in Minneapolis. Before the gig, they stopped at The Current's studio for a session hosted by Mary Lucia.
