Wyclef is detained in L.A.

Just days after performing at SXSW as part of a Prince tribute, Wyclef Jean was briefly detained and handcuffed in Los Angeles. According to the New York Times, deputies mistook the star for a suspect in a robbery that took place near a studio where he was working. Wyclef posted video of the incident on Twitter, sparking critical comments on how quick police are to treat black men as criminal suspects.

Missy announces first U.S. concert in nine years

Missy Elliott has been announced as part of the lineup for the FYF Fest in July in Los Angeles. It's the rapper's only scheduled gig this year, and her first U.S. performance since 2008. She's recently begun releasing new music after a hiatus linked to her 2011 diagnosis with a thyroid disorder, and is working with her longtime collaborator Timbaland on a forthcoming studio album. Nicki Minaj beats an Aretha record

Nicki Minaj has broken a chart record long held by Aretha Franklin: most Hot 100 hits by a female performer. Minaj has just landed three new songs in the Hot 100, giving her a total of 76 songs to hit that chart. Franklin has only three fewer Hot 100 hits, with 73 — but Minaj has never had a number one hit, whereas Franklin topped the chart twice, with "Respect" and "I Knew You Were Waiting for Me." All I Want for Christmas is You...Tube?

Mariah Carey took to Twitter — in her pajamas — to announce that her classic song "All I Want for Christmas is You" is being turned into an animated movie that will be released this holiday season.

Billboard reports "the plot will expand on that of Carey's 2015 children's book of the same name, which sees a young Mariah coming across a puppy named Princess and deciding that's all she wants for Christmas. In order to get Princess, though, Mariah must prove she can pet-sit Jack, a rather unruly dog who turns Mariah and her family's holiday preparations upside down."
