In the wake of Tragically Hip frontman Gord Downie’s death from brain cancer at age 53, tributes are pouring in from musicians and friends around the world, and especially in his home country of Canada. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau issued a statement in memory of Downie, and made emotional televised comments.

Feist shared a cover of "The Stranger," a song from Downie's solo album Secret Path. "I send out this song with love, respect and gratitude in honour of Gord's generosity of spirit," she wrote. "I admired so much his honest way of communicating what he saw and the courage and conviction he searched with. Thankyou, and I love you." (Stereogum)

The Boss remembers Tom Petty

Rolling Stone has shared an interview in which Bruce Springsteen remembers and pays tribute to Tom Petty. "Tom is my generation," says the Boss. "We were from the same generation of rock & rollers. A Chris Cornell guitar strap, a Dave Grohl flannel shirt, and an Iggy Pop wallet are among the celebrity accessories that are being turned into timepieces for a charity sale. A MusiCares addiction recovery fund is selling over two dozen such watches, with the Cornell watch touring to various worldwide locations of the Nixon watch company before being auctioned next year.

Cornell agreed before his death to donate the guitar strap to the auction. "Addiction is a disease, and we lose far too many loved ones to the illness each day," wrote the Soundgarden frontman's widow Vicky Cornell in a statement. (Rolling Stone)

Buy an animatronic band

It's never too early to start thinking about those holiday gifts for the music fan on your list. Here's an idea: maybe your best bud needs an animatronic band! A copy of the Beach Bowsers Band from Chuck E. Cheese circa 1985 is up for sale on Craigslist, at the low low price of $5,000. How could you resist? The Beach Boys knockoffs even come with their stage and musical tapes, though it's unclear whether you could use your own tapes to let the dogs rock out. (Consequence of Sound)
