Filming is about to begin in London for a new Judy Garland biopic that will focus on a series of concerts the singer performed in the late 1960s, near the end of her life. Renée Zellweger will play Garland, who was born in Grand Rapids, Minnesota in 1922. The film's producers have just released the first image of Zellweger in character as Garland, and the resemblance is truly uncanny.

Michael Gambon (a.k.a. Albus Dumbledore) will co-star as the impresario who booked the gigs, and the film is expected to feature many of Garland's best-known songs. (Buzzfeed)

Sonic Youth guitar pedals go on sale

Four guitar pedals formerly owned by Sonic Youth are now up for sale on eBay, the items' authenticity verified by the band's former drummer Steve Shelley. Perhaps the most distinctive is a 1997 "Big Cheese" pedal with separate dials for "Curds" and "Whey." The sellers admit that they can't verify when or whether the pedals were ever actually used on a Sonic Youth recording or tour, but...well, they might have been. (Pitchfork)

Kansas to celebrate Point of Know Return

Kansas are playing no fewer than three shows in Minnesota between now and July 19 — but fans of "Dust in the Wind" will be hoping they come back yet again. On Sept. 28, the band will be kicking off a new tour celebrating the 40th anniversary of their album Point of Know Return. That may seem a little belated since the album was actually released in 1977, but Point of No Return hit its commercial peak in 1978. They'll be playing the album in its entirety at every show.

In addition to the frequent film and TV appearances of "Dust in the Wind," the album was memorably mentioned in High Fidelity. When Rob (John Cusack) names "Smells Like Teen Spirit" as one of the five greatest side-one-track-one songs, Barry (Jack Black) responds sarcastically, "Oh, no, Rob, that's not obvious enough! Not at all! How about, uh, 'Point of No Return' on Point of No Return?" (Billboard)

JT sinks a shot

Justin Timberlake’s Super Bowl halftime show wasn't much of a hit with audiences, but maybe while he was in Minneapolis, he picked up some good vibes from the world champion Minnesota Lynx. While hanging out in Washington, D.C. for his tour opener, Timberlake stopped by the Wizards practice facility and sank a dramatic half-court shot, as captured in his Instagram story. He'll be back in Minnesota to play Xcel Energy Center on Sept. 28 and 29. (Billboard)

Michael Bolton "raps"

It takes time, love, and tenderness to convincingly deliver "Gangsta's Paradise." That's what Michael Bolton demonstrates in Thursday's episode of Lip Sync Battle. A clip of the performance has been released, and it's "awesome," according to co-host Chrissy Teigen...although Bolton only seems to actually know the chorus. (Billboard)
