Fifty years ago, Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was fatally shot on a motel balcony in Memphis. He'd spent nearly 13 of his 39 years leading the modern civil-rights movement, a push toward equal rights, access, opportunity, and freedom for all races.

In commemoration of Dr. King's life and legacy, The Current will air four hours of music and stories from, and inspired by, the civil-rights movement. Community voices Prof. Mahmoud El-Kati, Craig Morris, Alida Abdullah, Wokie Weah, Ray Richardson, Kim Hines, and Jennifer Ingram share memories and thoughts on 1968. Derrick Stevens hosts this program from 12-4 p.m. Wednesday, April 4.
