Al Church performs in The Current's studio
by Andrea Swensson and Cecilia Johnson
April 25, 2018
When you first see or hear Al Church's "Night Games," you might understand it as a trip back in time. And it is; Church's voice thrums with fondness when he sings about his memories of playing Capture the Flag and making forts. But as Church explains to Andrea Swensson, the song is also a commentary on the cultural shift that keeps most kids indoors these days.
This Friday, get outside and travel to the Turf Club, where Al Church and a host of friends and collaborators will bring "Night Games" — and his new album of the same name — to life.
In the meantime, use the audio player above to hear Al Church perform from Night Games and talk about being in eight different bands, making melodies, and growing up in Duluth, Minn.
