It's Shark Week - the annual, week-long TV programming extravaganza which features shark-based programming on the Discovery Channel.

Shark Week originally premiered on July 17, 1988, thus making it the longest-running cable television programming event in history. It was originally devoted to conservation efforts and correcting misconceptions about sharks, but has since become more a part of pop culture, including hokey riffs on popular shows. Examples from this year: "Naked and Afraid of Sharks", "Shaq does Shark Week", "Bear Grylls vs. Shark", "Alien Sharks Greatest Hits", "Guy Fieri's Feeding Frenzy", "Shark Tank Meets Shark Week", "Cash Cab Shark Week Edition", and of course, "Sharks Gone Wild".
