Alex Chilton's fantastic musical output extended far past his work with Big Star and the Box Tops.

Recently two new compilations of Alex Chilton's music in the 1980s were released: Songs From Robin Hood Lane focuses on his foray into jazz standards, while From Memphis to New Orleans highlights some of his best rock songs of that era. And while neither collection contains the kind of material that made Alex Chilton a legend from his work with Big Star and the Box Tops, each showcase the diverse and rich talent he brought to all his music, even when it was misunderstood or confusing at the time.

Tune in to Teenage Kicks, Saturday, March 23, as we celebrate all of Chilton's output, with an eye toward his quirky '80s output.
