Starting this Thursday, officers patrolling Minnesota roads can act on a new "slowpoke law", designed to keep the left lane open for passing under most circumstances. The law says that people clogging up the left lane and thus creating a traffic hazard have to move to the right when possible.

Now there are circumstances when it's OK to go slower in the left lane - like in the case of emergency vehicles, shoulder obstructions and an upcoming exit or left turn. And there's another big law coming into effect Thursday...but we'll talk more about that later this week.
