Riding the wave of voters trying to get into the big show next Thursday at Xcel Energy Center with Feist opening, Bon Iver makes it to the top this week. A recent episode of the NY Times video series Diary of a Song" details just how hard Justin Vernon tries to be the consummate host when friends are at the studio in Eau Claire.
Another big show in the coming week is at Target Center with Modest Mouse and the Black Keys! Tune in Saturday 5 - 7 p.m. when Mac Wilson will run down the results of you voting for your fave Black Keys tunes! Jill Riley might even have a few tickets to giveaway when she hosts our next Happy Hour on Thursday.
Ending their 10 week stay at six, The National are inducted to The Chart Show Hall of Fame for the 8th time. This puts them at #12 on The All Time Hall of Fame Chart, which we republished this week to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of The Chart Show!
Highest new entry is Vampire Weekend, back with the third song to chart form their 'Father of the Bride' album. They just announced another string of tour dates too, but we'll have to road trip to Lincoln, NE or Cedar Rapids IA. Support will come from Dijon, Twiddle and Kingfish.
Speaking of road trips, although not originally intended to be a concept record, the New Pornographers' latest, "In The Morse Code of Break Lights" became one by default says songwriter AC Newman. Although the song up to #15 this week doesn't quite fit the other 'car songs', it's about how being in love makes one perceive the world differently.
Slipping to fifteen is Brittany Howard, who's brand new 'Jaime', named after the sister she lost in childhood, is our Album of the Week.
Back in the basement are local legends The Hold Steady, who all like they might wear a T-Shirt tux on their official band photos. Their website has a really clean, cool looking layout, even the title of the shows page is perfectly in sync with the band, "Massive Nights". I would love to see one of their holiday shows in their newly adopted home (how long can I get away with saying that?!)
Submit your Chart Show ballot this week for a chance to win tickets to see Lizzo at the Armory in Minneapolis, MN on October 9, 2019.
