Today in 1999, Cher started a four-week run at No. 1 on the U.S. singles chart with the dance-pop hit "Believe".
The song was a pioneer in the pitch-correcting Auto-Tune movement which was originally intended to correct off-key inaccuracies, but since its inception has been used by producers as an effect to creatively distort vocals.
