In this public health crisis, musicians have been trying all sorts of different ways to connect with audiences live - and livestreamed. Monica LaPlante joined Jay Gabler on Instagram live to talk about her upcoming livestreamed rooftop gig in Northeast Minneapolis.

The show was inspired, she said, by a recent adventure playing on top of Savage Aural Hotbed's van as it drove around town. "People were running out," she remembers. "People were following us on their bikes and freaking out. It was like Rocky!" Her next goal: playing a drive-in.

"We've been trying to figure out what to do, and everyone's just in the Kermit, Muppet flail all the time. Just like, 'I don't know!'," LaPlante said. "It's nice to find people who want to be creative, of a similar mind like, let's be safe about this but let's work around as much as we can."

LaPlante's also released new music recently: the Quarantine EP, with her bandmates recording their respective parts in their own studios. The song "Compression," though, she made herself using a vintage drum machine that initially seemed like it might be beyond repair. "Took me years to figure it out," she said.
