Eddie Van Halen, the Van Halen guitarist and songwriter died Tuesday after a battle with cancer at the age of 65.

Eddie Van Halen was known for his high-flying guitar technique -- heavy on tapping, with both hands on the neck of the guitar. In 2012, he was voted No. 1 in a Guitar World magazine reader's poll for "The 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time".
