Purple Current Prince Week Schedule

All times Central Daylight Time (CDT)

Monday, April 19

Noon – Best Prince from The Vault
Since "Moonbeam Levels" in November of 2016, Prince's estate has released an impressive amount of previously unreleased tracks from the vault. For Monday's edition of the Purple Hour, you'll hear an hour of the finest tracks to come out of the vault since Prince's passing.

2 p.m. – The Revolution Live at Rock The Garden
In 2017, The Revolution pulled into the Sculpture Garden of the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis to help The Current Rock The Garden. Join us at 2 p.m. as we hear the entirety of The Revolution's live set from July 22, 2017.

5 p.m. – Princestrumentals
At Purple Current, we love to go deep — and that's exactly what we'll do with this edition of Funk at 5. Join us for a full hour of Prince, Madhouse and related projects documenting Prince's penchant for conducting wildly funky tracks with no lyrics.

Tuesday, April 20

Noon – Prince Guitar Solos
For Tuesday's edition of the Purple Hour, we'll be jumping onto Prince's fretboard to hear some of his greatest guitar solos. And trust us, we'll pull solos from every era of Prince's catalog to shine a light on his whole catalog of amazing guitar moments.

2 p.m. – Theft of the Dial with Donna Grantis
In 2017, 3RDEYEGIRL guitarist Donna Grantis was gracious enough to visit our studios to talk about the genesis of 3RDEYEGIRL and the amazing experiences she had sharing studios, rehearsal halls and venues with Prince throughout their period of collaboration. Join us for a rebroadcast of Grantis's conversation with Jim McGuinn, accompanied by her awesome musical selections.

5 p.m. – All Prince Funk
Good luck working Prince's catalog into a single genre box. Prince was all over the map musically in the best possible way, but it's no secret that he had a special gift for delivering amazing funk tracks. On this edition of Funk at 5, we will go all Prince funk for one hour.

Wednesday, April 21

12:01 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. – Prince A to Z
Purple Current will mark the five-year anniversary of Prince's passing by playing selections from Prince's catalog in alphabetical order.

Thursday, April 22

Noon – Prince Basslines
Can the bassists have some? There is no doubt of Prince's prowess as a writer and player on almost every instrument on the bandstand. But too often, the mastery of Prince's bass playing and writing gets overlooked. That changes today with an hourlong celebration of some of the greatest basslines from the Prince catalog.

2 p.m. – Theft of the Dial with Tony M
In 2017, Tony M from the New Power Generation visited our studios to chat with Derrick Stevens. Tony M explores the roots of the Minneapolis Sound and plays a couple of the best tracks from the music Prince and Tony made together.

5 p.m. – All The Time
Jamie Starr, or um … Prince … saved some of his funkiest writing for the Time. Join us for an hour of funk from one of the greatest funk bands of all eternity, The Time.

Friday, April 23

Noon – Prince's Pen
To close our week of specially themed Purple Hours, we will bring you a full hour of Prince songs performed by other artists. The breadth of artists who ended up interpreting Prince's work is mind boggling, and we'll play the cream of the crop

2 p.m. – Music from the Purple Rain Tribute and The Street Festival
The Current hosted a screening of Purple Rain and a concert featuring Lizzo, Ashley DuBose, Tickle Torture, Maurice Jacox and more in 2015. And on the night of Prince's passing in 2016, The Current teamed with the city of Minneapolis and First Avenue to host a street concert in downtown Minneapolis that brought the entire community together. Join us for selections from both concerts.

5 p.m. – The Hits from Prince
Join us for an hour of Prince's biggest hits to close out our weekday programming. We love going deep into Prince's catalog, but we want to amplify the monster hits that made Prince the worldwide icon he is. We'll pack a bunch of chart-toppers into this hour of Prince.
