Today is Sir Raymond Douglas Davies' birthday, best-known as the lead singer and rhythm guitarist for the Kinks. Often referred to as "The Godfather of Britpop", he turns 77 years young today.

Just what is Britpop? It's a U.K.-based music and culture movement that produced brighter, catchier alternative rock and was focused primarily between the years 1993 and 1997.
