Orla Gartland, "You're Not Special, Babe"
After spending years touring and working on her songwriting and production, Dublin artist Orla Gartland has her debut album, Woman on the Internet, coming out August 20. There's a little Kate Nash, a little Sia, and a little Feist coming together in a cohesive sound that's uniquely catchy.
Helado Negro, "Gemini and Leo"
"Gemini and Leo" is a chill summer jam from Helado Negro. His seventh album, Far In, isn't out until Oct. 22, so there's plenty of time to sit in the sun with this one. Inspired by the singer's youth in Florida listening to '80s club music and '90s hip hop, the song is an ode to late nights spent dancing.
Valerie June, "Smile"
Valerie June can somehow balance Motown and country, folk and psychedelia; "Smile" is a testament to that mix that ostensibly shouldn't work — but in June's capable hands, seems effortless.
Courtney Barnett, "Rae Street"
In a recent conversation, Courtney Barnett shared that she made her new album alone during the pandemic, and in that solitude, found herself making music that she wanted to listen to — music that could comfort her and slow down her swirling mind. The new album, Things Take Time, Take Time, is out in November, and the first song is a slow and gentle slice of life that somehow, in the contemplation of life's banality, gives comfort.
Gully Boys, "Russian Doll"
Minnesota group Gully Boys know how to rev up the energy. They request that you add this song "to your summer playlists and scream at the top of your lungs." And that's perfect advice.
Amen Dunes, "Feel Nothing" Feat. Sleaford Mods
A layered and intricate new song from Damon McMahon's project, Amen Dunes, has arrived on the heels of the announcement that he's signed to Sub Pop. Helping out on vocals is Jason Williamson of Sleaford Mods.
