December 04, 2021

Growing up, I experienced no joy quite like popping a quarter in the jukebox at Papa Gino’s and hearing my song occupy some of the eternity we had to wait before the server would grab the distorted microphone and mumble, “Michael, your order is ready.”

The right song coming on a jukebox can change the temperature, air pressure, and mood of a room. Some of my personal favorites are “Blueberry Hill” by Fats Domino; “Running Back” by Thin Lizzy; and, if I find myself in a room full of people who seem like they really don’t want to hear Wu-Tang Clan, I play “Protect Ya Neck” a couple times in a row.

I want to widen the circle for tonight’s Radio Free Current and also include karaoke jams and songs you love to sing along with in the car. I feel like the karaoke classic is a close cousin to the jukebox jam, and I figured we’d celebrate both tonight.

Give me your requests and I’ll get ‘em on the air tonight, and I won’t charge you like TouchTunes will!
