Hey! This is Julian Green, Content Director for The Current’s Urban Alternative Project. Our team is building a service dedicated to the depth, breadth, and influence of Black musical expression with a music stream focused on highlighting the works of artists that have shaped and will shape the future of traditionally African and African American music genres.

I've been focused on building the library for the stream for the past two months, curating a diverse, eclectic mix of genres like hip-hop, jazz, electronic, afrobeat, and R&B. The stream also has a strong focus on local music. One of the things that makes music fun to me is the sense of discovery that comes along with hearing new music or forgotten favorites. With this new stream, my hope is that you feel that sense of discovery and nostalgia, that you can be surprised or comforted depending on the hour.

I could keep typing about it, but I think you should just hear what we’re trying to do. So, I made you a playlist. It’s The New Thing, a special preview of what’s to come early this summer. Feel free to share it with your friends. Check it out here: https://www.thecurrent.org/playlist/the-new-thing-beta

P.S., Don’t forget the secret code!
