April 15, 2022

It has been nearly six years since his passing, and Prince’s music and aura continue to feed and energize people everywhere. As the anniversary of his death nears, several celebrations and remembrances have popped up around the metro. Prince was renowned for those all-night boogies at Paisley Park; grieving his loss can certainly mean getting down to the music.

A Night to Remember at Paisley Park (April 21)

Frequent Prince collaborator and alternative soul rocker Liv Warfield returns to the Paisley Park Soundstage for an evening of honoring Prince's life and legacy. All proceeds will go to charity to support youth advancement. Stop back at the Purple Palace in June for an annual celebration, this year featuring the Prince mural launch in Minneapolis.

Paisley Park, Chanhassen. 7 p.m. $85–$100 (sold out)

April Snow Dance Party at Gluek's Restaurant and Bar (April 21)

"All day, all night" is the name of the game. On April 21, there will be nothing but Prince tunes spinning at Gluek's in downtown Minneapolis, and when the clock strikes midnight, a "blowout" dance party will commence featuring even more Prince — and some other jams too. There will be live performances and one lucky raffle winner will receive a gold symbol guitar. PRN Productions alumni might be in attendance.

Gluek's Restaurant and Bar, Minneapolis. 5 p.m. $31.21

Purple Rain 35mm Presentation at the Parkway Theater (April 21)

Revel in the 1984 epic trials and tribulations of a feisty young musician that put First Ave on the map catapulted Prince into international stardom — all on the Parkway's historic silver screen.

The Parkway Theater, Minneapolis. 7 p.m. $9–$12 (There’s also a showing at Mall of America’s B&B Theatres at 7 p.m. — enter for a chance to win tickets here)

Under the Cherry Moon and Graffiti Bridge at Chanhassen Cinema (April 21)

Two more cinematic classics make up a double feature day in Chanhassen, home of Paisley Park.

Chanhassen Cinema, Chanhassen. 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. $19.99-$31.21

The Dance Electric 7 at Icehouse (April 23)

When it comes to spinning Prince, DJ Dudley D knows what he's doing — he was a resident DJ at Paisley Park and toured the world with Prince in the late 1990s. After Prince passed, DJ Dudley D decided to honor the legend by continuing to host "The Dance Electric" parties at Paisley Park. Now at Icehouse, special guests include Prince's saxophonist BK Jackson.

Icehouse, Minneapolis. 9:30 p.m. $25

A Salute to the Music of Prince at Pioneer Place On Fifth (April 30)

Trek up to St. Cloud to see Prince tribute savant Chase & Ovation perform the hits. Tommy Chase has been at it for 15 years and has shared the stage with the Prince's former bandmates. He grew up with the Minneapolis sound, worked on the Graffiti Bridge (1990) set, and was even babysat by Prince's mother. Don't expect any purple flair; this show's focused on the music.

Pioneer Place On Fifth, St. Cloud. 7:30 p.m. $31
