Hear new songs from Canadian bands Arcade Fire and Metric, as well as the latest from Neko Case, Helado Negro, and Minneapolis band Graveyard Club. Plus, get to know Houston, Texas, band The Suffers.

Arcade Fire, “Unconditional I (Lookout Kid)”

The new Arcade Fire album comes out on May 6, and a second tease has just been released, "Unconditional I (Lookout Kid)." This album seems to be full of epic journeys, each song taking you on multiple rides, jumping from mood to mood to push the song to new heights.

Metric, “All Comes Crashing”

Metric's last album, Art of Doubt, came out in 2018 and was about imposter syndrome to some extent — an artist’s pondering what the value of that art was worth. After some down time and a pandemic, the Canadian act are back with new art and talking about everything falling apart and the aftermath of destruction.

The Suffers, “Don’t Bother Me”

This is the ultimate unbothered track to get you through a hard time with a soundtrack of horns and high hats from The Suffers. The Houston, Texas, band make asking someone to leave you alone sound like a party anthem in "Don't Bother Me."

Neko Case, “Oh, Shadowless”

Neko Case's gift is that of the pharmakon — the poison and the cure. Her lyrics will cut you wide open while her voice is so sweet that it's an instant balm. The compilation album Wild Creatures is a wonderful deep dive into the voice and career of Case with new artwork, essays and track-by-track commentary celebrating Case's two decades of solo work. "Oh Shadowless" is a gorgeous addition, it's a lullaby that's equally dark and sweet.

Graveyard Club, “Nowhere”

Made popular by their ‘80s pop/Joy Division-esque anthemic songs, Graveyard Club make music that yearns for the simplicity of childhood, when daydreaming and careless exploration were encouraged. Their latest single, “Nowhere,” sounds at the point of painful heartache as vocalist Matthew Schufman sings “I know where / I’m nowhere.” The joyous music softens the tone and blossoms out the melody, with production and mixing work by familiar names in our local scene: Andy Thompson (Cloud Cult, Matt Wilson) and Beau Sorenson (Bob Mould). Graveyard Club’s next full-length, Moonflower, will release June 17. – Diane

Helado Negro, “Yo No Estoy Aquí”

As we gear up for lazy, hot summer afternoons, feel free to add Helado Negro's "Ya No Estoy Aquí" to the playlist. A song that drifts and sways like tree branches in a light wind, it takes you away from where you are — like the title implies — perfect for a sunny daydream.
