This week, hear a lead track from Wilco’s forthcoming album Cruel Country, as well as new tracks from Porridge Radio, Mykki Blanco, Sunflower Bean, and Kae Tempest — and hear a new one from Minneapolis artist Moise, who is already making waves across the globe.

Wilco, “Falling Apart (Right Now)”

Jeff Tweedy takes this music-making seriously. He wakes up and goes to work, so it's no surprise that there's new music in a year where he's also jumping on stage with side project Golden Smog and touring around the 20th anniversary of Yankee Hotel Foxtrot. The 12th album from Wilco is Cruel Country; it's Tweedy and the band going all in on an album that they have felt assigned to, but never fully embraced. The songs were recorded to try and capture a live feel, and that loose and free energy comes across in "Falling Apart (Right Now)."

Porridge Radio, “End of Last Year”

U.K. band Porridge Radio have a new album coming out May 20, and from the first couple of tracks, it's going to be one to keep for year-end lists. Another single just came out, and Dana Margolin of the band said, "‘End Of Last Year’ is a love song for my bandmates and for myself. It’s about not trusting my intuition, not trusting my body to heal itself, not trusting the people closest to me, but it is also an ode to all those people, and to difficult platonic love. It came out of a particularly painful period of communication breakdown and high pressure that hurt a lot, but ended in reconciliation and understanding."

Mykki Blanco, “Your Love Was A Gift” feat. Diana Gordon and Sam Buck

“‘Your Love Was a Gift’ is for me,” Mykki said in a statement. “If not the most honest, it’s the most beautiful song I’ve ever written. The idea for the song comes from my own wins and losses in the game of love and it’s a story of coming of age as much as coming to terms in adulthood with feeling unloved, yearning to be loved and yearning to be understood.”

Sunflower Bean, “I Don’t Have Control Sometimes”

New York trio Sunflower Bean are releasing Headful of Sugar this Friday. "I Don't Have Control Sometimes" is a perfectly sweet pop confection. It's an ode to making bad decisions and feeling like you're losing control of yourself.

Kae Tempest, “No Prizes” feat. Lianne La Havas

"I used to make plans, now I make decisions" starts the new song from Kae Tempest, "No Prizes." The poet, published author, singer and songwriter has always been able to put the current moment down into relatable and beautiful context. The gorgeous vocals of Lianne La Havas balance out Tempest’s spoken-word delivery and create a grounding in a song about the difficulties in daily life.

Moise, “Cellphone Receiver”

Minnesota musician Moise spent the pandemic focused on creating new music and has already released part one of a two-part album that's due later this year. BBC 1 has already proclaimed him as a "Future Artist," so now is a good time to get to know his music a little better.
