Who would you want to spend your last day on Earth with? Your dog? your best friend? Your unrequited crush?

That’s just one of the questions Metric are working through on their eighth album, Formentera.

Emily Haines, front woman of the band, said the album titles comes from a tiny island near Ibiza that none of them had visited, but it had been sort of a daydream location — a location so unknown that that it started to feel imaginary. After a while, the band realized “Formentera” was a placeholder name for an escape hatch in their minds to avoid feeling powerless in their own lives.

Formentera is a pulsing disco shimmer of an album to distract from the daily toil. Listen for songs from Metric’s latest as our Album of the Week on The Current.
