This week, we’ve got a suprise release from Billie Eilish, as well as new music from Cuco, U.S. Girls, Yard Act and Minnesota’s Guytano. Plus, discover the “Compton house” sound of California producer, singer and rapper Channel Tres.

Billie Eilish, “The 30th”

A surprise EP, Guitar Songs, came out this week from Billie Eilish — which came out of a conversation with her brother/collaborator, FINNEAS, while she was on tour in Europe. “I would mention some stuff about the state of home and it was just so weird to be in a place where they weren’t having to deal with that,” Eilish told Apple Music. “Then I was thinking back to everyone at home and just being like, ‘Wow, what the f—k? What’s going on?’” New track “The 30th” is an insular song about a friend in a car accident.

Cuco, “Sitting In The Corner” (Feat. Kacey Musgraves & Adriel Favela)

The Los Angeles musician who gained attention via YouTube with his bedroom pop has opened the door to a bigger sound and allowed more people to be a part of his musical world. Not only is Cuco working with producers on his new album, Fantasy Gateway, but Kacey Musgraves is featured on the track "Sitting in the Corner." On this new album, Cuco said, "I love when a song makes me feel like I'm reminiscing on something that never even happened, or when a melody makes me feel like I'm dreaming. I want my music to make people feel like they can escape reality."

U.S. Girls, “So Typically Now”

The COVID pandemic halted the momentum of numerous artists; one of those who deserves a bit more attention is U.S. Girls, the Canadian experimental prom project from Meghan Remy. On the new, shimmery summertime song, "So Typically Now," Remy's witty and coy lyrics bounce with exuberance.

Yard Act, “100% Endurance” (Elton John Version)

U.K. post-punkers Yard Act gained attention with their witty lyrics during the pandemic, and as venues started opening back up, they’ve been hitting the road. Elton John, who now spends a good chunk of his time celebrating artists he thinks are great, is a champion of the band and is featured on the new version of their song “100% Endurance.”

Guytano, “She Knows”

Minnesota-based Guytano creates a moody pop world with their latest "She Knows." It's a catchy jam that could be on any summertime sad-boy dance-floor playlist.

Channel Tres, “Just Can’t Get Enough”

Maker of the "Compton house" sound, producer Channel Tres creates smooth and deep beats. Playing with the vocals of Teddy Pendergrass, this new track is filled with horns and optimistic energy.
