When Hot Chip frontman Alexis Taylor sings “I need an escape and some primitive healing” on the title track for their new album it feels uncomfortably relatable.

The band has been innovating their own unique lane of music for the last 18 odd years. They are part dance music, part pop, and part deep lyrics. Their eighth album, Freakout/Release, continues that varied tradition.

The band said that this album “is about pent-up energy and the need for release, and escape.” It’s threaded with a darkness drawing from the politics of our current time and personal emotions.
