This week, we’ve got new songs for you off new releases by Margo Price, The War on Drugs, and Tegan and Sara, as well as a new solo track by Minneapolis music producer Zak Khan. Plus, discover the sounds of New York’s Nation of Language and of Belgian-Egyptian musician Tamino.

Margo Price, “Change of Heart”

The new album, Strays, will be coming out January 13, and Margo Price is calling it a celebration of freedom “in its many, feral forms.” This album was motivated by her recent decision to quit drinking, and it tackles self-image, self-worth, love, and bodily autonomy.

The War on Drugs, “Oceans of Darkness”

The War on Drugs are planning on releasing a deluxe box set of their most recent album, I Don’t Live Here Anymore, on September 30. On that new version will be a couple of new songs, including “Oceans of Darkness.” Frontman Adam Granduciel said, “It’s rare that a song of ours could feel this complete after only a few takes, but it had all the desperation and urgency that we had been looking for. Ultimately I didn’t include it on the record because I couldn’t find a home for it among the other songs. We’re happy we can share it with you now.”

Nation of Language, “From the Hill”

Dreamscape fuzzed-out and pulsing synth kick off a new track from New York post-punk band, Nation of Language. “From The Hill,” according to the band, “is a song reflecting on times when friendships fall apart over romantic entanglement, accompanied by the sensation that you’re somehow watching it happen from above with a more zoomed-out perspective.”

Tegan and Sara, “I Can’t Grow Up”

Canadian indie rockers Tegan and Sara have a new album, Crybaby, coming out October 21. They also have a new TV series and a graphic novel both debuting this fall. Apparently with all of that, they also met the young Chicago band, DEHD, and were so inspired from that meeting that they wrote a song, “I Can’t Grow Up.” Sara Quin said the track “was musically inspired by Chicago band Dehd and their album Flower Of Devotion,” adding, “The song started on bass, an instrument I’d never written with until Crybaby, and I was channeling a little bit of Emily Kempf from Dehd, and Peter Hook from New Order.”

Zak Khan, “What Are You Waiting For?”

“Songs for me are very much like snapshots or photographs of different moments and experiences in my life and the people I was with during the creation of those songs,” is what Minnesota artist ZAK KHAN told Macie Rasmussen during a recent interview for The Current. The multi-instrumentalist and producer (Kinfu, Papa Mbye, Fruitpunchloverboy) has been spending his time lately stepping in front of the mic, like on the song “WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?”

Tamino, “Fascination”

The Belgian/Egyptian musician stopped at the Fine Line in Minneapolis on September 25 while on a huge tour of North America. His album second album, Sahar, will be out on September 23. Radiohead’s Colin Greenwood worked on the album as well.
