Sound Unseen started in 1999 as a scrappy film festival for music fans in Minneapolis. The annual fest has since evolved into a cultural cornerstone for many Midwesterners. From November 9-13, musical events and film screenings will play out at venues across the city, including Trylon Cinema, Bryant Lake Bowl, The Parkway Theater, The Main Cinema, Moxy Minneapolis Uptown Hotel, and more.

One of the most-anticipated films is Parkway Theater’s screening of Meet Me In the Bathroom, a documentary adaptation of Lizzy Goodman’s memoir about the early ‘00s New York rock scene featuring the Strokes, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, LCD Soundsystem, Interpol, TV On the Radio, and more. Goodman will be in attendance for a post-screening Q&A.

Attendees can catch new flicks like Immediate Family, a doc about the staple session musicians of the 1970s who backed up artists like James Taylor, Carole King, and Keith Richards. Or Buffy Sainte-Marie: Carry It On, which dives into the life story and legacy of the legendary Indigenous musician and activist.

Old classics, like the 30th Anniversary screening of Wayne’s World, are also well-represented in the lineup. See a full list of films and where to watch to them at soundunseen.com

In addition to curating community around music and film for the 23rd year in Minneapolis, Sound Unseen will return to Austin, TX again this year with similar programming Nov 3-6.
