With fall now in full swing, gone are the grills, cold-brew coffees, and various foods-on-a-stick, and in comes soup, and the groan-worthy pumpkin spice lattes. It also ushers in yet another important food: pie. From sweet fruit-filled pies to savory pot pies and pasties, there are several spots within the Twin Cities to get a pie fix. Below are a few to check out, and ready for incoming holiday feasts of epic proportions.

Dave the Pie Guy

Pie of Choice: Cherry Pie

Diner pies are the best pies to run across, and it’s fitting that Dave the Pie Guy fits the description. While serving southside Minneapolis patrons with typically delicious fare for breakfast and lunch, their back page of pies is where Dave the Pie Guy shines. Their cherry pie is packed with flavor, and is offered with your choice of a lattice or crumble top. Don’t have the time to enjoy a slice? Dave the Pie Guy’s pies are all available to order and pick up with enough advanced notice. 3544 Grand Ave. S, Minneapolis

Hot Hands Pie & Biscuit

Pie of Choice: Apple Pie

Nothing screams the autumnal equinox more than an apple pie. Sure, pumpkin might be all the rage, but an apple pie’s warmth and flavor tends to be the torch bearer’s standard. Over on Snelling Avenue in St. Paul, Hot Hands delivers both sweet and savory pies great for any dessert offerings, especially once the holidays come into play. Their apple pie is made with a butter crust and topped with a brown butter streusel that make the simple touch-up to a standard all the more delectable. 272 Snelling Ave. S Ste 100, St. Paul

Potter’s Pasties & Pies

Pie of Choice: Banoffee

A reader might see the word “banoffee,” and read it mistakenly as “banshee.” And, in that event, it makes for a good jump scare, right? There’s nothing spooky about this reality: Potter’s, a place known primarily for their pasties, is home to two kinds of pie. While the s’mores pie may seem the easiest to gravitate towards, the Banoffee is the clear winner, a pie made with bananas, dulce de leche, and whipped cream, atop a graham cracker crust. 1828 Como Ave SE, Minneapolis

Heather’s Pies

Pie of Choice: Peach & Northern Blueberry Pie

The key mechanics of a good pie include the freshest ingredients, and that includes the freshest of fruits, and a decorative crumble or lattice to deliver the most pleasant visual aesthetics. Heather’s Pies does both with zero fuss, which has garnered her pie shop national recognition. The option to get a custom-made lattice crust with a message of your choosing helps give her creations, such as the peach & northern blueberry pie, the essential human touch to help make whatever gathering or occasion all the more sentimental. 4108 Salem Ave. S, Minneapolis

Pies by Therese

Pie of Choice: Pumpkin Pie

By now, you’ve made it this far down the list and are probably thinking “Hey, where the hell is pumpkin pie mentioned!? What kind of list is this?” Fret not, pumpkinhead! This Mac-Groveland piemaker offers some of the tastiest, old-fashioned no-frills pies that the Twin Cities has. Pies by Therese’s pumpkin pie is also offered year-round, so think of it as a way to ward off the weariness and sadness that comes when coffee shops phase out pumpkin spice lattes in spring. 1825 Fairmont Ave. S, St. Paul

Sarah Jane’s Bakery

Pie of Choice: Strawberry Rhubarb

Sarah Jane’s Bakery woos patrons with its fresh-baked wares every morning. Driving down Johnson Street NE, one might be lucky to smell the wafting aromas of the donuts that were prepped for the morning’s incoming patrons. Sarah Jane’s also has a respectable list of pies available. One of them is the strawberry rhubarb, which remains as eternal and certain in a Minnesotan’s taste buds as their unwavering, die-hard loyalty for its respective sports teams and the resting fate that there’s always next year. 2853 Johnson St. NE, Minneapolis

The Buttered Tin

Pie of Choice: Key Lime Pie

There is a contingency of Minnesotans who feel as though summer and spring never left. They refuse to go gently into the confines of autumn and winter as enthusiastically as those who appreciate the return of fall sports seasons and dressing in layers. In the right mind frame, you might see them with shorts or flip-flops during the thick of chilling conditions, and changing seasons. How brave, and yet, how brazen. The key lime pie from the Buttered Tin, which has locations in St. Paul and northeast Minneapolis, is a dedication to that said contingency, where it will be summer and spring forever in their hearts, minds, and souls. 237 7th St. E, St. Paul

Turtle Bread Company

Pie of Choice: Pear Cranberry

With three locations on the south side of Minneapolis, it’s no secret that Turtle Bread has been keeping Minneapolis pretty well fed with its bevy of pastries and dessert offerings. Rightfully so, and considering the massive amount of said offerings, their pie offerings are no slouch, either. With a great selection of year-round and seasonal pie offerings, it is their pear cranberry pie during the fall that makes for an excellent dessert centerpiece to appease, even when everyone’s got full stomachs at the dinner table. 4762 Chicago Ave., Minneapolis

Marc Heu Patisserie

Pie of Choice: Péché Mignon

For those who seek a different spin on pie, there’s always a tart. Marc Heu’s Patisserie over in St. Paul has provided them as fast as they can be done, with impeccable precision, and incredibly awe-inspiring visual design. The péché mignon, which translates to “guilty pleasure” in French, is topped with a hypnotic spiral of the milk chocolate ganache, which will get you doing the Homer Simpson drool expeditiously. All the chocolate used in this tart is directly imported from Belgium. It features a dark chocolate sablé for the tart shell, the bottom crust is a moist dark chocolate brownie with pecans, and there’s a soft layer of oozy salted caramel to hold it all together. There’s simply nothing more decadent and divine. 383 University Ave. West, St. Paul
