This week’s batch of brand-new songs for you to check out includes offerings from two Scottish bands, CHVRCHES and Young Fathers. We also hear new tracks from Cigarettes After Sex and from M83, as well as a new collaboration between Bully and Soccer Mommy. Plus, hear the latest from Minneapolis family grunge band Loki’s Folly.

CHVRCHES, “Over”

Scottish band Chvrches decided to give fans “a brief reprieve from the horrors of CHV4” – talking about their first new music in a year, since their fourth album, Screen Violence. The band will spend some time looking back as they will be celebrating 10 years since the release of their debut album, but with “Over,” they are sharing a bit of what’s to come.

Cigarettes After Sex, “Pistol”

Cult band Cigarettes After Sex continue to create a dreamy and smoky legacy with “Pistol.” The band continue to create minimal and romantic music, as they gear up for a world tour (which will land at the Armory — moved from the Palace Theatre — on August 31).

M83, “Amnesia”

M83, a project centered on French musician Anthony Gonzalez, has always been able to create a soundscape full of 1980s nostalgia and teen angst. A new album, Fantasy, will be out on March 17. It’s full of the synthy flairs and drama that could soundtrack any John Hughes film, like this song, “Amnesia.”

Loki’s Folly, “No Right”

Teen Vogue just called Minnesota trio Loki's Folly the “Gen Z grunge band you need to be paying attention to.” The brash and fast family band, who don’t shy from stage screams or tough topics, are celebrating their debut album, Sisu, full of songs that rage like this one, “No Right.”

Bully, “Lose You” feat. Soccer Mommy

Bully (Alicia Bognanno) has teamed up with Soccer Mommy for a new song called “Lose You.” Recorded a year ago in Bognanno’s Nashville studio, it was a way to bring in a voice that Bognanno loved and to collaborate for the first time on a song. The song itself, says Bognanno, “was a way for [her] to work through the pain and reality of impermanence. It doesn’t make it any easier but reflection is often followed by growth and to [her] that’s what life is all about.”

Young Fathers, “Rice”

With their fourth album, Scottish trio Young Fathers continue to experiment with a mix of hip hop and indie. On “Rice,” they give us a joyful and gentle song that they hope transports you “somewhere hot, rural, swampy.”
