This week, hear another cut from Bully’s new album, Lucky For You, an early track from Jayda G’s forthcoming album, a fan favorite from Thee Sacred Souls now available as a recording, and the first new music in three years from Minnesota’s beloved Semisonic. Plus, discover the sounds of Los Angeles band ALEXSUCKS and London artist Lava La Rue.

Bully, “All This Noise”

“I’m so overly emotional and sensitive, it’s a blessing and a curse” — that’s what Minnesota native, Alicia Bognanno aka Bully, said to kick off a conversation about her new album, Lucky For You. The album rocks its way through the pain. Whether that’s losing her longtime pet Mezzi or reflecting on keeping sober in her new hometown of Nashville, it’s a cathartic album that brings in shoegaze, punk, and garage rock to keep the guitars and drums thrashing with the persistence to carry on.

ALEXSUCKS, “Can We Forget”

It may sound like they are pulling straight from the mid-aughts New York post-punk scene, but ALEXSUCKS are from the heart of the Los Angeles garage-punk scene. Their influence on “Can We Forget” seems pretty straightforward, but I’m all for the indie sleaze revival.

Semisonic, “Little Bit of Sun”

Minnesota’s beloved Semisonic wanted to share a little joy with their first new music in nearly three years. In a statement, Dan Wilson of the band shared that new song, “Little Bit of Sun,” was a song that came to him quickly and fully. “It felt so right,” Wilson says. “We’ve all been beaten down by darkness for the last few years, it’s like we can hardly ask for a full sky of sunshine. We’d be willing to scrape by on a glimpse of it. But obviously, the song is asking for more. I can get by on a little bit, but at some point I want it all.”

Lava La Rue, “Renegade”

Recent signees to Dirty Hit Records (home to Beabadoobee, The 1975) London’s Lava La Rue released a new song, “Renegade.” It’s a slamming glam-rocker from the up-and-comer who recently performed at Coachella and is planning a U.S. tour.

Jayda G, “Scars”

Canadian Grammy-nominated house-music producer and DJ, Jayda G, is releasing her new album, Guy, on June 9. The ‘90s dance energy floats and pushes for a summertime jam in “Scars.” Jayda G said in a statement that the song is “about my dad and his story, and naturally in part my story, too, but it’s also about so many people who wanted more for themselves and went on a search to find that. This album is just so much for people who have been oppressed and who have not had easy lives.”

Thee Sacred Souls, “Running Away”

The San Diego trio Thee Sacred Souls have officially released one of their live-show fan favorites, “Running Away.” Upbeat and funky, it shows off another side of a band who are often known for their slow jams.
