Joel Herz joined The Current in 2024. Originally from Muskego, Wisconsin, a suburb of Milwaukee, he attended school for music business. His first internship led him to live radio, where he has found a home creating meaningful connections between listeners and artists ever since.
Joel is a self-proclaimed music omnivore, enjoying and collecting everything from heavy metal to pop. He grew up around the oldies his dad introduced, like Eric Clapton, the Beatles, Creedence Clearwater Revival, and other radio hits of the ‘60s and ‘70s. Growing up in the ‘90s and “The Napster Era,” he found his way to the ‘90s rock and pop his two older siblings loved, such as Backstreet Boys and Dave Matthews Band. He was also heavily influenced by the Warped Tour, a dreamland for his personal music discovery, and he grew to love country after volunteering at a country music festival.
On air, Joel loves highlighting a wide range of artists, from Killer Mike and Medium Build to Cloud Cult and The Killers. Joel hopes to inspire others to be nonjudgmental about music taste. “Love what you love and don’t be bashful,” he says.
Joel is a host at The Current, filling in a variety of times.
