Shane Kramer grew up in Minnesota and has spent the bulk of his years in Minneapolis. When he was a wee lad, he loved visiting his grandma’s house, because she had Kenny Rogers’ “The Gambler” on vinyl. He would play it on her turntable and look at the liner notes, wishing he was Kenny! That experience hooked him on records. He has amassed a collection of about 3,000, which is whittled down from the 10,000 he used to own.
One of the most formative records for Shane is Radiohead’s OK Computer. His favorite band of all time, however, is the Cure. Their show in St. Paul in June of 2023 was hands-down the best concert he has ever seen. He cried thrice! Shane also loves Yacht Rock. What began as an ironic appreciation for Hall and Oates eventually grew to a genuine appreciation of the blue-eyed soul artists such as Michael McDonald, Christopher Cross, Ambrosia, and Steely Dan. He also enjoys highlighting current artists like King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, Blur, and Shakey Graves. He is a big fan of local music, and especially loves the recent shoegaze-type bands like She’s Green, Dad Bod, and Spaceport.
Shane also works as a professional DJ for Transmission Music, and in his previous life he did some acting for commercials and film. He also loves playing music in his band DIIE. Shane is brand-new to The Current family — he just got started in October of 2023. He serves as a host on The Current, filling in at various times.
