Zach joined The Current in 2023. He likes to joke that he’s a townie, as he has lived in various neighborhoods around south Minneapolis his entire life. He credits his mom’s love of soul and his dad’s love of ska and punk for igniting his own love of music. His dad would gladly chaperone Zach to teen-friendly shows, so he grew up in the all-ages punk scene, playing in pop-punk and ska bands, and volunteering at TC Underground, next to Extreme Noise records. The Clash were his first great love, and in his teens, he looked up to Minnesota punk heroes like the Replacements and Hüsker Dü. He fell in love with radio circa 2006, when he became a teenage host for KUOM Radio K’s high school student show. His experience at Radio K broadened his taste in music, to indie rock like Spoon and Superchunk, as well as local bands like Blind Shake and Teenage Moods.
Being on the radio gave him a platform to share his musical discoveries, not just with his friends, but with the entire city. He stuck at Radio K, hosting their local music program, Off the Record, for nearly a decade until graduating in 2013. He’s into pretty much everything lately and is excited by artists featured on The Current like Bully, White Reaper, Sports Team, Genesis Owusu, Wednesday, Ratboys, and so many more.
Zach is the midday host at The Current. Listen to him Monday-Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and during the 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. hour of The Current Morning Show.
