Is it just me, or did summer go by quicker than ever this year? Between being too hot, too wet, too smoky, are we even able to take it in this year? Either way, it's already back to school time, and that's exactly what this week's theme will be. And what does a Transmission back to school soundtrack sound like? There's only one way to find out. 

Last week on Transmission, DJ Jake Rudh hosted a show all about the smooth rock and pop sounds of the late 70s and early 80s, otherwise known as Yacht Rock. But this week on the show, he will do the same, except it's only 80s and it might even be smoother. Once or twice a year on The Current, Jake hosts an hour of Sophistic-pop. And if you're unfamiliar with what that is, we invite you to tune in this Thursday night at 10 o'clock to find out. Just remember to dim the lights before you tune in.

As hard as this is to admit, the summer is slowly coming to an end, but not before we have at least one more go at a smooth summertime soundtrack.

We're now in 1982. MTV had been on the air for a little less than a year, but its impact was already very much being felt with a huge wave of UK bands being represented, the same way they'll be represented on Thursday's show.
