Ahead of a show with his band the Violators in the First Avenue Mainroom, Kurt Vile stopped at The Current for a session hosted by Mary Lucia. Vile played solo acoustic versions of a couple songs from his latest album, 'Bottle It In,' and one from his 2011 release, 'Smoke Ring for My Halo.'

Michigan-born, Reykjavik-based musician John Grant is a fascinating individual even before he starts performing songs. Ahead of a show at the Fine Line in Minneapolis, Grant stopped at The Current studio to play songs and to engage in lively and thoughtful conversation with host Mac Wilson.

Although Haley has composed instrumental music before, her 2018 release 'Pleasureland' is her first all-instrumental full-length. 'This was so much more satisfying when I wasn't trying to say something with words,' Haley says. 'It was how I felt and what I connected to.' Haley, along with Jeremy Ylvisaker, visited The Current studio to play music from 'Pleasureland.'

Even though JD McPherson told himself he'd never do a Christmas album, a little holiday spirit changed his mind. McPherson and his band recently released 'Socks,' an album of 11 holiday originals. 'It still just hits me as the most ridiculous album title of all time!' McPherson laughs as he and his band stopped into The Current studio for a session hosted by Brian Oake and Jill Riley.

Winnipeg-based singer-songwriter William Prince wants to write songs that stand the test of time. 'I'm in the business of writing hopefully good songs, [and] getting better,' he says. 'I think my best ones are to come yet.' William Prince recently visited The Current for a session hosted by Bill DeVille.

Phosphorescent, aka singer/songwriter Matthew Houck and his band, visited the Twin Cities for a show at First Avenue on Dec. 1. During their stay in town, they stopped by The Current's studio to perform music from the new album, 'C'est La Vie,' and talk with Mac Wilson.

'Heart Bones is a fully new band that Sabrina Ellis and I started,' explains Sean Tillmann, aka Har Mar Superstar. 'It's a duo, but we morphed into eight of us.' On the cusp of a national tour that starts at the Turf Club in St. Paul, Heart Bones stopped at The Current for a session hosted by Mark Wheat.

Hippo Campus capped off their fall tour with a pair of shows at St. Paul's Palace Theatre and The Current was there with another live video stream. Watch the archived video from Saturday, November 24.

Michael and Tanya Trotter form the nucleus of The War and Treaty. Their debut album, 'Healing Tide,' was released on Aug. 10, 2018. After taking September's Americana Music Association Honors and Awards presentation ceremony by storm, the War and Treaty have been touring in support of the album. Ahead of their recent show in Minneapolis, the War and Treaty stopped at The Current for a session by Bill DeVille.
