April is Public Radio Music Month, and what is more "public radio music" than the in-studio session? Stations across the nation put hours and hours of work into bringing up-and-coming artists and high-profile bands into their studios, often capturing some of the most poignant... or raucous performances out there.
So to celebrate Public Radio Music Month, we're having a daily vote for the best in-studio tracks from The Current's performance archive. We've gone through and picked some of the most beloved performances by the staff and by our audience. We'll play the winner during the Live Current track of the day the following day.
Now, let the games begin! Today's vote: Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings, Snow Patrol and the Jayhawks
Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings are the winner!
- Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings perform in the Current studios New York's Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings have been kicking out impeccable, James Brown-esque throwback funk and soul for nearly a decade.
- Snow Patrol performs in The Current studio Snow Patrol's major label debut vaulted them to global alt-rock stardom in 2003. Currently on an extensive tour, they stopped by the studios for a session with Mary Lucia.
- The Jayhawks perform in The Current studios The Jayhawks originally formed in the winter of 1985 in Minneapolis. Founding members Gary Louris, Mark Olson, and Marc Perlman haven't performed together as The Jayhawks since 1995 -- until a reunion in Minneapolis earlier this month.
