MPR's Movie Maven Stephanie Curtis joins Steve Seel and Jill Riley to talk about a new film starring Michael Keaton, Emma Stone and Edward Norton.

Directed by Alejandro Inarritu (Babel, 21 Grams), Birdman: The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance (its full title) is a satirical comedy about a washed-up actor (Keaton) who once played an iconic superhero, but whose career ambitions never came to fruition. He attempts to recover his family — particularly his daughter (Stone), who just got out of rehab — and his career in the days leading up to the opening of a Broadway play.

"It is fantastic to have Michael Keaton in the lead in this movie," Stephanie says. "It's a well put-together film, a total lark."

Stephanie cites the strong cast, the single-camera shooting style and drum-solo score as highlights of this film. Listen to the full audio above to hear the full review.

Birdman is rated R and is playing at the Landmark Lagoon Cinema in Minneapolis.

MPR's Movie Maven, Stephanie Curtis, joins The Current's Morning Show to talk about films every Friday at 8:30 a.m.
