Pieta Brown performs in the Radio Heartland studio

Pieta Brown's latest album, Postcards, is an experiment in trust and collaboration — with fellow musicians and with the U.S. Postal Service. Pieta had written a basket of songs all alone in various hotel rooms while on tour and sent demo tapes (or "postcards," if you will) out to many of her musical friends to add their magical touch. The album contains collaborations with Mark Knopfler, David Lindley, The Pines, and Carrie Rodriguez to name a few. Each one listened to Pieta's solo track, and sent back the song with their own personal, musical touch.
Pieta says the mixing of the record was done in the exact same way — by sending all the musical elements to producer BJ Burton (Bon Iver, Hiss Golden Messenger, Bruce Hornsby) to mix and send back. The results surprised and pleased her, and now we listeners get to enjoy this collaboration.
Pieta Brown was in the Twin Cities recently and stopped in the studio with some friends to talk about the album and play a few tracks.
