Teenage Kicks®
Exploring Early Hip Hop
March 03, 2018
This week a different theme for Teenage Kicks - where we often sprinkle in some early hiphop - but Jim McGuinn welcomes "Wright About Now" host Toki Wright to co-host the show, and they're going to play four hip hop songs that changed rock history.
Starting in the South Bronx in the early '70s, hiphop became a part of world culture through collaboration with funk and punk artists, and Jim and Toki talk about some of the songs that made that happen. They also play a whole lot of great hip hop from the '80s, as well as some rock artists who felt the influence early on.
This week, it's a deep dive into early hip hop.
