Live Aid
July 14, 2018
July 13, 1985. Up there with Woodstock, maybe the biggest concert in rock history. Live Aid. Billed as the "global jukebox" and viewed by over 1.5 billion people, it's the biggest television event of all- time - with more than 60 acts, alternating from Wembley to JFK Stadiums in London and Philadelphia. Phil Collins flew the Concorde to play with Sting, Clapton, and Zeppelin, U2 became global superstars, and over $250 million was raised for famine relief. But Led Zeppelin's performance has also been called "the worst rock and roll reunion of all time" Simon LeBon was notoriously offkey, and a show that promised to deliver aid to Africa failed to feature even one performer from the continent! But one band also turned in what's been called the "best performance in rock history" We'll tell you who and dedicate the entire show this week to the artists that played Live Aid.
