Sinead O'Connor / Shuhada Davitt
December 08, 2018
Another artist we've never featured on Teenage Kicks until now is Sinead O' Connor. Catapulted to world wide fame with the success of her cover of Prince's Nothing Compares 2 U, Sinead recorded a series of albums in the late '80s and early '90s that were by turns fiercely confrontational, melancholy, angry, soulful - hauntingly beautiful. Her notoriety peaked on October 3, 1992 when she ripped up a photo of the pope during an appearance on Saturday Night Live, which generated a strong backlash from mainstream press and audiences. In the decades since she's taken various paths for herself and her music - sometimes with controversial results. Now living as Shuhada Davitt after a recent conversion to Islam, she promises new music in 2019, and we promise to feature her on her 52nd Birthday.
