Tears for Fears

Following the breakup of their mod-punk outfit Graduate, Roland Orzabel and Curt Smith changed their style and their sound, forming the synth pop band Tears for Fears in 1981. Following a strong college radio debut The Hurting with Songs from the Big Chair, Tears For Fears hit No. 1 this week in 1985 with the appropriately titled "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" - and for two weeks on the U.S. charts - Tears for Fears did.
