Adam Ant
September 07, 2019
This week sees another Kicks era artist making a rare appearance in the Twin Cities, as Adam Ant plays the Pantages Theatre Sunday night. The artist formerly known as Stuart Goddard got his start playing bass in Bazooka Joe, who are remembered mostly as the band that the Sex Pistols opened for on their first gig. Supposedly that performance led to Stuart leaving Bazooka Joe, as he was the only member of the band who saw the future that night. Changing his name, he soon created Adam and the Ants, but the Pistols manager Malcolm McLaren stole his band to become Bow Wow Wow. Regrouping then with guitarist Marco Pirroni, Adam had the last laugh as Antmusic put the band at the forefront of the New Romantic movement. Pirate shirts for all! Adam Ant went on to chart ten U.K. Top-10 hits and garner worldwide fame, which led to sidesteps into acting, altercations with the law, and now — a U.S. tour.
Antmusic is back in fashion this week on Teenage Kicks.
