The Replacements, 'Don't Tell A Soul' / 'Dead Man's Pop'
October 05, 2019
In 1989, The Replacements came as close as they ever would to be becoming rock stars, when "I'll Be You" peaked at No. 51 on the Billboard charts. The album it came from was called Don't Tell A Soul, and despite that almost-hit, band leader Paul Westerberg was quoted saying, "I thought the little things I'd cut in my basement were closer to what I wanted." Well, now we can hear what he wanted with the release of Dead Man's Pop, a new box set that delves into an earlier mix, demos, live tracks, and even collaborations with Tom Waits. We'll hear new / old Replacements music, and we'll hear from 'Mats biographer Bob Mehr, author of Trouble Boys.
