Mark Wheat fills in for Jim McGuinn this week on Teenage Kicks, and we''ll celebrate birthdays of Peter Tosh, Tom Petty, and Norman Blake from Teenage Fanclub. And we'll dig into the musical genre of ska. Started in Jamaica in the '60s along with reggae, it emigrated to England and mixed with punk to form a movement in 1979 called 2 Tone. Working-class kids formed interracial bands, wore sharp-looking suits, and sang anti-Thatcher lyrics with even sharper wit, and the leaders of the movement were The Specials. Their debut album came out 40 years ago this week — we'll dig into it, this week on Teenage Kicks.
