Beastie Boys, 'License to Ill'
November 16, 2019
On November 15, 1986, the Beastie Boys released License to Ill — their debut album — the first rap album to go to No. 1, an album that sold over 10 million copies, and an album the Beastie Boys would generally live down for the rest of their career, as their crude, rude humor and basic rhymes of braggadocio haven't all aged well. Still, there was a youthful celebration of being alive, of repping Brooklyn, of mixing punk, rock, and early hiphop samples, and, there's "you gotta fight, for your right - to paaaaarty!" — an anthem for the ages!
