Teenage Kicks®
Ramones, 'End of the Century'; Elvis Costello, 'Get Happy'
February 15, 2020
This week on Teenage Kicks, we celebrate two great albums released 40 years ago this month: Elvis Costello's Get Happy, and End of the Century by The Ramones.
It was the end of the '70s, and the Ramones were about to star in the movie Rock 'n' Roll High School, and they chose Phil Spector to produce their new album, which softened the punk attack and pushed their classic songwriting to the forefront.
Meanwhile, Elvis Costello and the Attractions were writing and recording so prolifically that Get Happy crammed 20 songs onto their fourth album in as many years — and found them adding Stax, Motown and ska influences to their sound.
Elvis Costello and the Ramones — both featured this week on Teenage Kicks.
