Joy Division, 'Closer'
July 18, 2020
Released July 18, 1980, Closer was the second and final studio album by Joy Division, recorded in the weeks prior to lead singer Ian Curtis's death from suicide. Closer cemented the reputation of the Manchester band as one of the most important to emerge in the U.K. in the '70s. This week we listen to the courage and music of Joy Division, of Curtis and his bandmates who would soon morph into New Order, as they crafted an album that's been called "the crown jewel of post-punk" — Joy Division's Closer.
