This week we go back to the early '80s, and a split that led to two successful bands — when Martyn Ware and Ian Craig Marsh picked up their synthesizers and left Phil Oakley and The Human League. Human League would go on to have an iconic hit with Don't You Want Me Baby, but Martyn and Ian would find success as well — as Heaven 17, who released their first album, Penthouse and Pavement, this week back in 1981. Besides Heaven 17, the duo also produced songs on Tina Turner's Private Dancer comeback album, and they cut a song that would, more than 30 years later, be relevant enough to be covered by LCD Soundsystem.
