This week's featured artists are Buzzcocks. We're celebrating because today is the birthday of Buzzcocks guitarist Steve Diggle, born May 7, 1955, in Manchester.
In 1976, Diggle was among those in attendance at the Sex Pistols' legendary show at Manchester's Lesser Free Trade Hall. It was there that Diggle met Pete Shelley and Howard Devoto, who were looking for new bandmates. After Buzzcocks reformed, Devoto left the band, and the new lineup crystallized with Shelley taking lead vocals and Diggle moving from bass to guitar.
Following a hiatus in the 1980s, Buzzcocks reformed in 1989 and continued touring and releasing albums over the next three decades. Founding member Pete Shelley died in 2018, but Diggle has said the band will continue.
