This week, Teenage Kicks gets a bit meta as we celebrate the band who gave Teenage Kicks its name: Northern Ireland’s The Undertones formed in 1974, and their song, “Teenage Kicks,” is not only the title of this show, but it is also renowned as being the all-time favorite song of the late, legendary BBC Radio 1 DJ, John Peel. As it happens, we’re celebrating the Undertones because August 13 is the birthday of two of the band members: lead vocalist Feargal Sharkey and bassist Michael Bradley.

We also celebrate New Romantic pioneers and synth pop masters Duran Duran, who will play at Treasure Island in Welch, Minn.,, on Friday, August 19, along with Nile Rodgers and Chic. The show marks Duran Duran’s first visit to Minnesota since 2016.
